You are not what happened to you or what others called you. You are who God says you are. In this episode, discover how knowing your true identity in Christ unlocks your purpose and freedom.

Ever felt like life labeled you “not enough”?

Maybe someone’s words, or your own inner critic, have tried to define you. But when you belong to Jesus, your identity isn’t rooted in what you’ve done or what others think. It’s rooted in who He says you are.

In today’s devotion, you’ll hear the story of Christine Caine, who discovered on her birth certificate the word “Unnamed.” What once defined her became the backdrop for God’s greater truth: she was His masterpiece, wonderfully made, chosen, and loved. Her life reminds us that when God renames you, He also repurposes your story for His glory.

Main Scriptures:

Ephesians 2:10 – “We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”

Psalm 139:14 – “Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

By the end of this episode, you’ll discover:

  • Why your true identity must come from God’s Word, not the world’s labels
  • How freedom begins when you trade lies for truth
  • How purpose flows naturally from knowing who you are in Christ

Today’s Challenge:

Write down one false label you’ve believed about yourself, then cross it out and replace it with what God says is true.

Pray, “Lord, help me live from who You say I am.”

00:00:00.889 --> 00:00:05.748
She grew up carrying labels. Abused. Unwanted.

00:00:05.748 --> 00:00:35.429
Overlooked. Then, she found out she was adopted. As an adult, while sorting paperwork, Christine Kane found her birth certificate and saw a word that stung: #2508, UNNAMED. That one line tried to define her whole life. If you've ever felt like that—like a file folder label instead of a person—you know the ache. What do you do when the story handed to you says,"Not enough"?

00:00:39.466 --> 00:01:06.465
Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I'm Bart Leger. And today, we're talking about something deeply personal. And that's your identity. Because every day the world tries to tell you who you are—your job title and your mistakes, your past, your social feed. But when you belong to Jesus, those labels don't get the final say.

00:01:01.966 --> 00:01:17.605
Ephesians 2: 10 says, "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago." And

00:01:17.605 --> 00:01:28.126
14 adds, "Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex. Your workmanship is marvelous. How well I know it."

00:01:28.531 --> 00:01:59.646
10 It's easy to let old words or painful experiences become our identity. Maybe someone told you you'd never measure up. Maybe life left scars that whisper, "You're broken." But Scripture tells a different story. When God calls you His masterpiece, He's not exaggerating. A masterpiece isn't mass produced. It's one-of-a-kind, and shaped with purpose by the hands of its creator. Ephesians 3: 16 That means your design isn't random and your story isn't wasted.

00:01:59.646 --> 00:02:09.485
Your identity comes before your activity. Before you ever do something great for God, you are already someone loved by Him.

00:02:09.485 --> 00:02:20.485
And when you know who you are in Christ, when you've trusted Christ as your Savior, you begin to live out your purpose with confidence, not comparison.

00:02:16.586 --> 00:02:24.485
That's what happened for Christine Cain. She met Jesus and began trading labels for

00:02:24.485 --> 00:02:39.786
10 told her she was God's masterpiece, and Psalm 139 reminded her she was wonderfully made. Hesham, it didn't vanish overnight. But step by step, she let God rename

00:02:39.786 --> 00:02:46.586
Loved, Chosen, and Sent.

00:02:39.786 --> 00:03:12.258
And out of that new identity came purpose. She and her husband launched A21 to fight human trafficking and later propel women to help women walk in their calling. Her story shows that healing begins when we believe what God says about us and that purpose flows from identity, not from our performance. Today, write down one false label you've believed.

00:03:06.337 --> 00:03:20.087
Maybe it was unworthy. It might be forgotten. Or maybe not enough. it may not be forgotten.

00:03:20.087 --> 00:03:31.237
Or you may not be forgotten. And you are a masterpiece, you are beloved, and you are redeemed.

00:03:25.557 --> 00:03:35.478
Pray that God will help you live from that identity this week.

00:03:31.237 --> 00:03:42.907
Father, thank you for calling us your workmanship, your masterpiece. Help us stop living under old labels and start walking in who we are in Christ.

00:03:44.048 --> 00:04:00.777
Remind us that our purpose flows from your love, not our performance. In Jesus' name, Amen. And if you know someone who needs to hear this episode, please send them to www.
