You don’t have to understand God’s plan to trust His heart. In this episode, discover how true peace comes from surrendering control and believing that God’s wisdom is higher than yours.

Have you ever prayed for something that didn’t go the way you expected?

When doors close or plans fall apart, it’s easy to think God’s forgotten you, but what if He’s simply redirecting you toward something better?

In today’s devotion, you’ll hear the story of NBA player Jeremy Lin, whose journey from rejection to global spotlight reminds us that God’s timing is always right. His success wasn’t luck, it was the fruit of surrender. When Jeremy trusted God in uncertainty, he discovered a peace that didn’t depend on the scoreboard.

God’s ways are higher. His plans are wiser. And even when life doesn’t make sense, His heart for you is good.

Main Scriptures:

Proverbs 3:5–6 – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Isaiah 55:9 – “For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

By the end of this episode, you’ll discover:

  • Why God’s detours are often divine direction
  • How to release control and trust His wisdom
  • A prayer to help you rest in God’s plan today

Today’s Challenge:

Think of one area where you’re struggling to understand God’s plan.

Write down Proverbs 3:5–6 and pray: “Lord, I don’t understand what You’re doing, but I trust that You do. Lead me step by step.”

Keep this verse nearby as a daily reminder that peace doesn’t come from knowing the plan; it comes from knowing the Planner.

00:00:01.102 --> 00:00:19.922
He's sleeping on a couch in a tiny Lower East Side apartment, undrafted, waved off by the Warriors, waved off by the Rockets, and now, barely hanging on with the Knicks at the end of the bench. The night before, he finally gets real minutes in the game. He crashes on teammate Landry Fields' sofa.

00:00:19.922 --> 00:00:32.902
No guarantees. He was at a very low point. Here was a young point guard praying he could honor God wherever he is and trust the next step he can't see.

00:00:28.263 --> 00:00:54.542
He's 23, a Harvard grad, who's wondering if the NBA dream is about to end before it even starts. So he does what a lot of us do when we're standing at a dead end. He prays, God, wherever you have me, help me honor you. Help me trust you, even when I can't see the next step. Would God really have a plan in something that felt so small and disappointing?

00:00:57.993 --> 00:01:16.072
Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I'm Bart Leger, and I know what it's like to wonder what God is doing when my plans fall apart. Did you hear what I just said? When my plans fall apart. Yeah, that's right.

00:01:11.733 --> 00:01:20.322
Sometimes we think faith means understanding everything God is up to. But God does no best.

00:01:20.953 --> 00:01:26.033
Proverbs 3, 5 and 6 says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart.

00:01:26.572 --> 00:01:39.983
Do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. God's ways don't always make sense at first.

00:01:35.472 --> 00:01:39.983
But I know they're always right.

00:01:40.653 --> 00:01:51.692
He sees the full picture. We only see a tiny part of it. It's like holding a couple of puzzle pieces and trying to figure out what the finished puzzle should look like. Good luck with that.

00:01:51.923 --> 00:02:41.043
So, what about the basketball player with the big dream? The next night, February 4, 2012, Jeremy Lin checked into the game against the Nets. By the time the buzzer sounds, he scored 25 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds for the New York Knicks. The arena explodes. Overnight, Linsanity takes off around the world. But Jeremy keeps pointing people past the headlines. He said, There are so many things outside my control. God orchestrated this timing perfectly. And later, after the fame faded, after injuries, and even after a tough free agency stretch, he reminded fans that God is still faithful in the highs as well as the lows.

00:02:36.872 --> 00:02:41.043
That's what trust looks like.

00:02:41.052 --> 00:03:16.643
It's not about predicting what God will do. It's believing he's good no matter what he does. I know, we like control, and we like plans that make sense. But sometimes, God lets the plan unfold in ways we wouldn't choose. Because he's teaching us to depend on him, not just our expectations. And he knows what the future holds. He knows what's best for us. Well, maybe today, you're between jobs. Or the relationship didn't work out.

00:03:16.893 --> 00:03:20.492
Or you're waiting on a prayer that hasn't been answered yet.

00:03:21.513 --> 00:03:34.953
Please, don't mistake silence for absence. God's delays aren't denials, necessarily. He's writing a story you'll only understand when you look back.

00:03:31.242 --> 00:04:01.233
Isaiah 55.9 says, We don't have to understand his plan to trust his heart. Here's today's challenge. Name one area where you've been trying to figure everything out. Then, pray this simple prayer. God, I don't understand what you're doing, but I trust that you do.

00:04:02.043 --> 00:04:07.932
Help me follow you step by step.

00:04:02.043 --> 00:04:34.603
And then, write Proverbs 3, verses 5 and 6 somewhere where you'll see it this week. And let it remind you that God's plan is better, even when it's slower, even when it doesn't make sense to you, and that you can't see the outcome yet. Heavenly Father, thank you that your wisdom is higher than ours, and that you see the whole picture. When we don't understand the road ahead, help us to trust you more deeply.

00:04:35.452 --> 00:04:39.442
Teach us to rest in your timing and walk by faith, not by sight.

00:04:39.742 --> 00:04:49.033
In Jesus' name, amen. Thanks for joining me today on Daily Devotions for Busy Lives.

00:04:44.692 --> 00:04:57.012
Remember, God's plans are never delayed, and his wisdom is never wrong. Come back next time for more encouragement to help you live grounded in God's truth.

00:04:57.423 --> 00:05:00.692
Until then, God bless, and have a great day.
