Strength in Stillness

You don’t have to hustle to prove your worth. Today’s devotion reminds you that real strength is found not in striving, but in stillness with God.
What if the strongest thing you could do today was stop and be still?
In a world that glorifies hustle and productivity, God invites us into something deeper—and far more powerful: rest. Isaiah 30 tells us that stillness and trust are where true strength begins.
BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING, YOU’LL DISCOVER:
- Why slowing down isn’t lazy—it’s biblical
- The spiritual cost of constant striving
- One simple way to make room for stillness and strength today
You’re not weak for needing rest—you’re wise for seeking it.

If you’re like most people, your life moves fast. You’re always doing, always going, always planning. But under the surface, you’re worn out. And even though your schedule is full, your soul feels empty.
Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I’m Bart Leger, and I often find myself running but rarely resting. Like me, maybe you need to be reminded that there is strength in stillness, and God is inviting you into it.
Isaiah 30:15 says:
“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:
‘Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength.’”
But the verse ends with a heartbreaking line: “But you would have none of it.”
That verse hits hard. God is saying, “You’ll find strength when you slow down and return to Me.” But the people didn’t want that. They wanted to run. To fix. To keep moving.
Sound familiar?
I often confuse productivity with purpose. I think if I’m not constantly doing something, I’m falling behind. But Isaiah 30 is a gentle, powerful reminder: you are not your pace.
Stillness isn’t weakness. It’s worship.
Sometimes, the strongest thing you can do is pause. Return to God. Rest in Him. And trust that while you rest, He’s still working.
You don’t have to prove your worth. You don’t have to earn His love. Strength comes when you stop striving and start trusting.
Here’s your invitation today: Take five minutes. No phone. No noise. Just sit with God. Let stillness become your strength.
“God, You know how hard it is for me to slow down. But I want to return to You. Teach me to rest—not just physically, but spiritually. I trust You to carry what I’ve been trying to control. In Jesus’ Name Amen.”
