Quick question. What would happen if you powered down your phone all the way off and left it that way for a full 24 hours? There's actually a movement that invites people to try exactly that. Every first Friday in March, sundown to sundown, thousands of people join what's called the National Day of Unplugging. Picture it.

00:00:23.169 --> 00:00:42.688
No buzzing pockets. No inbox pings. No doom scrolling. Just a whole day to breathe. Walk, read, pray, maybe even finish a conversation without glancing at a screen. Sounds nice, right?

00:00:45.146 --> 00:00:54.835
But here's the part that grabbed me. Researchers tracked what happened to people who accepted the challenge, and the results might surprise you.

00:00:59.155 --> 00:01:29.168
Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives, your daily dose of truth and encouragement from God's Word. I'm Bart Leger, a pastor for over 40 years, and if your soul is stretched thin by constant noise, this episode's for you. Let's take a look at Psalm 46, 10. Be still and know that I am God. I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.

00:01:30.001 --> 00:02:23.805
This verse is more than a suggestion. It's an invitation, an invitation to slow down, stop striving, and to make room for the presence of God. Most of us live at full volume. We're checking messages during dinner, mentally multitasking during prayer, and waking up to alarm clocks that double as news tickers. Our minds never stop moving, and yet, the God who created the universe says, Stillness is hard because it's unfamiliar. It can feel like wasted time, but stillness is where we stop speaking long enough to let God speak.

00:02:18.966 --> 00:02:33.429
Stillness is where fear begins to melt, and faith begins to rise. And now, back to that story. So, what changed when people went tech-free for a day?

00:02:33.841 --> 00:02:53.181
Sociologist Simon Gottschalk from UNLV said even just one digital detox lifted people's life satisfaction scores. It also lowered what he called toxic neurochemical reactions, the stress chemicals that spike from nonstop notifications.

00:02:54.111 --> 00:03:11.611
People reported clearer thinking, deeper conversations, and my favorite, an unexpected sense of rest. It turns out that pressing off became a doorway to be still.

00:03:06.090 --> 00:03:28.069
One simple boundary, one quiet moment, created space to encounter the God who's always there, just waiting for us to stop and know. Maybe the most spiritual thing you can do today is pause. Unplug for ten minutes.

00:03:28.569 --> 00:04:40.752
Sit with no agenda. Whisper this, God, I'm here. Speak if you want to. I'm listening. Father, in a world full of hurry and noise, we need your peace. Help us to make room in our hearts and schedules for quiet moments with you. Teach us to be still and know that you are God. In Jesus' name, amen.
