Worry can take over before you even realize it, but Jesus offers a better way. In this episode, discover how to release control and trust the God who promises to care for you, one day at a time.

Do you ever find yourself replaying the same worries over and over in your mind?

Maybe it’s your finances, your family, your job, or the future. Worry doesn’t make tomorrow better, it just steals today’s peace. But Jesus invites us to do something radical: give our worries away.

In this episode, you’ll hear the true story of J.C. Penney, a man whose worry drove him to the edge, until one quiet moment in a hospital chapel changed everything. Through the words of an old hymn, “God Will Take Care of You,” he rediscovered what it means to trust instead of spiral.

Main Scripture:

Matthew 6:34 – “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Supporting Scripture:

1 Peter 5:7 – “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.”

By the end of this episode, you’ll discover:

  • Why worry is a form of misplaced control
  • How to release anxiety into God’s faithful hands
  • What it means to live in daily dependence on His care

Today’s Challenge:

Write down three things that have been worrying you lately. Then, next to each one, write this phrase: “God will take care of me.” Pray over that list and ask God to help you release what you can’t control and rest in His promise.

He can't sleep. The market crash has wrecked his finances, and the anxiety feels like a weight on his chest. J. C.

00:00:08.695 --> 00:00:31.765
Penney checks into the Battle Creek sanitarium...hoping rest will fix the worry that's been wearing him down. But in the quiet, pre-dawn hours, he wanders the hallway and hears singing from the chapel. Someone is playing the hymn, "God Will Take Care of You." * He stands in the doorway listening. Could that line be true for him, right now?

Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I'm Bart Leger. Have you ever lain awake at night, with your mind spinning through what-ifs? We all worry sometimes.

00:00:43.966 --> 00:00:51.845
But Jesus knew worry could take over our hearts if left unchecked. And that's why he

00:00:51.845 --> 00:01:04.006
to trade anxiety for trust. Today, we'll talk about what to do with worry and how to give it to the one who actually cares for you.

00:01:00.225 --> 00:01:12.335
Penney slipped into a pew that morning and began to pray. Later, he would describe a sudden peace washing over him, like stepping out of darkness into light.

00:01:12.424 --> 00:01:14.683
changed. He left the chapel not with his problems fixed, but with his focus fixed. He said,"The words of Jesus echoed in

00:01:14.683 --> 00:01:36.463
come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." From that moment on, he said, his life has changed. He left the chapel not with his problems fixed, but with his focus fixed on a faithful God who would take care of him no matter what came next.

00:01:30.284 --> 00:01:56.004
Matthew 6: 34 says, "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries; today's trouble is enough for today." And 1 Peter 5: 7 reminds us, "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares for you." Worry feels like control, but it's really a thief.

00:01:56.004 --> 00:02:27.747
It robs peace from your present by trying to solve problems that belong to tomorrow. Jesus didn't say the future would be easy. He said, "You don't have to carry it alone." Worry says, "What if I can't handle it?" Faith says,"God will take care of me." I've worried about so many things, and to be honest, I still do. I have to keep going back to the promise, "God will take care of me." He will honor that trust.

00:02:21.866 --> 00:02:36.247
When we release worry, we aren't pretending that the problems don't exist. We're remembering who's able to take care of it.

00:02:31.467 --> 00:03:33.986
God's care is personal and it's constant, and God's care is sufficient for whatever keeps you up at night. And that word in 1 Peter 5: 7, "cares," literally means, "the things that divide or distract." When you hand those over to God, you're letting Him take what's been dividing your heart and replace it with peace. You don't have to control tomorrow. You just have to trust the one who already holds it. Here's your challenge for today. Write down three things you've been worrying about. Then, next to each one, write this phrase,"God will take care of me." And then, pray over that list. Ask God to take what you can't fix and to give you peace in its place. When worry tries to come back, and it will, whisper that same promise to your heart, "God will take care of me." Heavenly Father, thank you that I don't have to carry my worries alone.

00:03:29.486 --> 00:03:42.766
You know my needs and my fears and my future. Help me hand every anxious thought to you and rest in your faithful care.

00:03:38.747 --> 00:04:27.079
"Replace my fear with trust and my worry with peace," in Jesus' name, amen. Are you struggling with worry and anxiety? Life today leaves more than one-third of Americans battling major anxiety. But God offers a path to real peace that no self-help tip can match. Scripture shows there is one who has already conquered fear and invites you to experience that victory every single day.
