So, a while back, my wife Katharine got me hooked on bear videos. You know the kind—wildlife clips where a camera catches something funny, cute, or chaotic.
One in particular had me laughing and nodding like, “Yep. Been there.”
It was a viral video of a mama bear trying to get her four cubs across a busy street.
She’d pick one up in her mouth, set it down on the other side… only for another cub to bolt right back into traffic.
Over and over again, she scooped and scolded, waddled and waited, trying everything she could think of to get those little furballs safely across.
And right there, watching that stressed-out mama bear, I thought:
This is parenting.
It’s loving and leading… and doing it all again when it doesn’t seem to stick.
Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I’m Bart Leger.
Today, we’re talking to the weary-hearted parent who wonders, “Am I making a difference?”
There’s hope in Scripture for those who feel worn down by the work of love. I know I gave you this verse a few days ago, but I’d like for us to revisit it.
Galatians 6:9 gives us encouragement.
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
Parenting is holy work. But it doesn’t always feel like it.
Sometimes it feels more like trying to herd wild cubs across a four-lane highway—while no one listens and everything’s loud.
You set boundaries. You pour out love. You offer grace.
And the next day… it’s like starting all over again.
But friend—God sees what you’re doing. And He says: Don’t give up.
That verse in Galatians is a lifeline for every parent running on fumes.
It reminds us that our daily choices to love, correct, guide, and pray will bear fruit in God’s time.
Even when it feels invisible now…
Even when it feels like nothing is sinking in…
Even when it wears you down to love like that—
God says it matters.
That mama bear didn’t give up.
And by the end of the clip, she had all four cubs safely across the road.
You will too. Keep loving. Keep leading. Keep showing up.
So here’s today’s encouragement:
If you’re a parent or grandparent, or someone who’s pouring into the next generation—
Don’t measure your success by how smooth today goes.
Measure it by your faithfulness to love.
God’s watching. And in His perfect timing, He’s working in the hearts you’re shaping.
“Lord, give strength to the weary parent today. Help us not to give up doing good. Thank You for promising a harvest—right on time. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
