The Bible isn’t just old words; it’s alive and active. In this episode, discover how God’s Word still speaks with power to transform hearts today.

Do you ever wonder if the Bible still matters in our modern world?

With so many voices clamoring for attention, it’s easy to treat Scripture as outdated or optional. But Hebrews reminds us: the Word of God is alive and powerful, it cuts through the noise and speaks straight to our hearts.

In today’s devotion, you’ll hear how actor David Suchet, known worldwide as Hercule Poirot, encountered the Bible in a hotel room. What started as “just literature” became the voice of God drawing him to faith in Jesus. His story reminds us why God’s Word still matters; it changes lives because it is alive.

Main Scripture:

Hebrews 4:12 – “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”

By the end of this episode, you’ll discover:

  • Why the Bible is more than history—it’s God’s living voice
  • How Scripture convicts, comforts, and guides us today
  • A simple way to let God’s Word speak into your daily life

Today’s Challenge:

Read one chapter of Scripture today, Romans 8 or Psalm 23 are great places to start. Ask, “Lord, what are You saying to me through this?” Then carry that phrase with you through your day.

Millions know him as the world's favorite detective, Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot.

00:00:04.065 --> 00:00:24.835
But offscreen, David Suchet was just a tired actor in a quiet motel room. He spotted a Bible, opened to the Book of Romans, and started reading. He thought it would be literature, or at best, background research. What he didn't plan for was what those words would do to him.

Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I'm Bart Leger, and today we're talking about why God's Word still matters. a world filled with podcasts, newsfeeds, and self-help advice, it's easy to treat the Bible as outdated or optional. But Scripture itself says it's alive and active and sharper than any double-edged sword. And not only that, our experience attests to it. Hebrews 4, verse 12 says, As David read, the message of Jesus went from ink on a page to a voice that spoke straight to his heart. In that room, David Suchet knelt and prayed a simple prayer, giving his life to Christ. Years later, he would record the entire Bible so others could hear the words that changed him. Don't let anyone tell you the Bible is just an ancient book written by a bunch of men who wanted to start a new religion, or that it's irrelevant in our modern society.

00:01:40.290 --> 00:02:08.961
On the contrary, God's Word is alive and powerful. It cuts through the noise and reaches thirsty hearts. It does what nothing else can do. And you may be thinking, But just because the Bible says it doesn't make it so. I hear you. There's enough evidence to support the Bible being the inerrant and inspired Word of God. That would take more time than we have here.

00:02:05.221 --> 00:02:08.961
But I can speak from experience.

00:02:09.360 --> 00:02:58.700
I've lost track of the times when God spoke directly into my life from what I read in His Word. And the timing? It was perfect. And here's the reminder for us. The Bible is more than a history book. It's more than wise sayings. It's the living voice of God speaking to us today. That's why it convicts us when we're drifting or when we sin. It comforts us when we're hurting and redirects us when we've lost our way. Think about it. There are moments when a verse you've already read, maybe a hundred times before, suddenly hits you in a new way. Right when you need it. Just like it did for me. That's no coincidence. That's the Holy Spirit bringing living words to life. But here's the challenge.

00:02:54.540 --> 00:03:07.281
We have to open it. A Bible sitting closed on the shelf won't change us. The life and power are waiting on every page.

00:03:02.300 --> 00:03:29.663
But we need to engage it. Here's my challenge for you today. Set aside time to read one chapter of the Bible. Maybe Romans chapter 8 or Psalm 23. you read, ask, Lord, what are you saying to me through this? And I want you to write down one phrase that stands out and carry it with you throughout the day.

00:03:25.230 --> 00:04:03.703
Lord, thank you that your word is alive and powerful. Forgive me for the times I've treated it as optional. Give me a fresh hunger for scripture and help me hear your voice as I read. Let your word shape my thoughts and guide my steps and may it anchor my heart in you. In Jesus' name, amen. Thanks for joining me today on Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. Remember, God's word isn't ancient and dusty. It's alive and still speaking to you today. Come back next time for more encouragement to help you live grounded in his truth.

00:04:03.712 --> 00:04:07.212
Until then, God bless and have a great day.
