Worship in the Waiting

Worship in the Waiting

When life hurts and the future feels uncertain, worship may be the last thing on your mind. But today’s devotion shows how choosing to worship—especially in the waiting—can bring peace, even before the answer comes.

Have you ever been too heartbroken or overwhelmed to pray?

In today’s episode, we hear the true story of a mom who learned how to worship even while her baby fought for his life. Her strength didn’t come from her situation—but from a God who met her in the middle of it. Psalm 30 reminds us: worship doesn’t ignore our pain—it gives us hope in it.

BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING, YOU’LL DISCOVER:

  • Why worship is powerful even when you’re still waiting on answers
  • How Psalm 30 invites us to bring our pain into God’s presence
  • The hope that comes from knowing God can change us before He changes our circumstances

Worship may not fix everything—but it will give you peace in the middle of anything.

NEED PRAYER?

Emily wept as she sat just outside the hospital’s intensive care unit—waves of fear crashing over her. Her two-month-old baby was fighting for his life. His lungs were filled with fluid, and the doctors offered no guarantees.

In that moment, when she had no words left and no strength to pray, Emily felt a quiet nudge from the Holy Spirit: Worship Me.

So she did. She couldn’t sing, but she played worship music on her phone—over and over—for the next three days. And as she listened, something in her heart began to shift.

The fear didn’t vanish, but peace began to move in. Not because she knew the outcome, but because she remembered God’s presence in the middle of it.

Later she said, “Worship doesn’t change God, but it definitely changes you.”

And by God’s grace, her little boy recovered. But what she gained in the waiting—hope, peace, nearness to God—was just as real.

Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I’m Bart Leger. Today’s episode is for anyone who’s waiting on God with a hurting heart. You might not be able to change your circumstances—but you can still choose to worship.

Psalm 30:8, 11–12 (NLT) says:

“I cried out to you, O Lord. I begged the Lord for mercy… You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!”

David knew what it was to cry out in desperation. Psalm 30 doesn’t ignore pain—it walks right through it. But it reminds us that God is the One who can turn weeping into joy.

Worship isn’t about denying the pain. It’s about bringing that pain into the presence of the One who sees it all and still holds you fast.

There are moments in life when we have no strength to sing—but worship doesn’t always need words. Sometimes it’s as simple as turning your heart toward God with what little you have left.

And in that space, God meets us.

He may not change the situation right away—but He can change us:

Fear into peace.

Despair into trust.

Mourning into dancing.

If you’re in a waiting season—waiting for healing, for hope, for answers—can I encourage you to worship anyway?

Put on a praise song. Whisper a thank-you. Just show up in His presence. And let Him meet you there.

Lord, thank You for being close when life feels heavy. Teach me to worship even in the waiting. Meet me in my fear and fill me with Your peace. I trust You, even when I don’t know what’s next. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Would you like someone to pray with you?
