When You Feel Like You Didn’t Get Much Done

When You Feel Like You Didn’t Get Much Done

Feeling like you didn’t get enough done? Today’s episode reminds you that your worth isn’t measured by productivity but by God’s unchanging favor over your life.

Ever end a day frustrated because your to-do list is still full?

It’s easy to measure our worth by what we accomplish—or didn’t accomplish.

When we tie our value to productivity, we live in constant pressure. But Scripture reminds us that God’s favor—not our performance—gives lasting meaning to our work.

BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING, YOU’LL DISCOVER:

  • Why your value is not tied to how much you accomplish
  • How God’s favor establishes the true worth of your work
  • A mindset shift that can free you from performance pressure

Psalm 90:17 says, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.”

00:00:01.639 --> 00:00:22.260
At the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, cameras were everywhere. Expectations were sky high. And then the unthinkable happened. Simone Biles stepped back from multiple events to protect her mental health. She told coaches her mind and body weren't in sync.

00:00:17.899 --> 00:00:49.399
She referred to the twisties, a dangerous loss of air awareness, and she withdrew to protect herself and her team. The headlines exploded. Some people cheered her decision. Others criticized it. And you can almost hear that quiet, nagging voice we all know. If you're not producing, are you still valuable? If you're not competing, you can't win medals.

00:00:43.420 --> 00:01:05.519
Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I'm Bart Leger, and I've been a pastor for over 40 years. This podcast here is to give you a few minutes in God's Word, so you can reset your heart and refocus your mind, no matter how busy your day gets.

00:01:09.462 --> 00:01:15.611
May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us. Stablish the work of our hands for us.

00:01:19.251 --> 00:01:34.281
This verse is a prayer for God's blessing over our work. But I want you to notice something. It isn't a demand that we do more, or achieve more, or always be on.

00:01:29.102 --> 00:02:34.007
It's an invitation to let God decide what really matters and to trust Him to give our work value. We live in a world that's obsessed with output. Our calendars, our checklist, and performance reviews all scream the same thing. Your worth is what you accomplish. But here's the truth. Your value is not tied to your productivity. You are not more loved by God when you get more done. And you are not less loved when the to-do list is still full at the end of the day. Yeah, I know how that feels. Every once in a while, I'm tempted to leave some things off my list so I can feel good at the end of the day. And so I can think to myself, Wow, I was so productive today. Pretty lame, right? But I don't think God keeps score the way we do. This is why I believe that the Bible says it's God's favor that gives lasting worth to our work.

00:02:34.076 --> 00:02:52.447
Without Him, our most impressive accomplishments won't matter in eternity. But with God, even the smallest act of kindness, the simplest act of prayer, the things we do for His kingdom that nobody else sees, these all become part of His bigger plan.

00:02:52.736 --> 00:03:20.347
And sometimes the most important thing God calls us to do is rest, reset, and remember who we are in Him before we do another thing for Him. In the days after her decision, Simone Biles posted a simple line that said so much, The outpouring love and support I've received has made me realize I'm more than my accomplishments and gymnastics.

00:03:15.866 --> 00:03:58.937
Then, at the very end of the games, she came back for one event, the balance beam. She chose a safer dismount and took bronze. But the bigger win wasn't the medal. It was rediscovering her worth beyond the scoreboard. And the same is true for you. Whether you win today or just make it through, God's favor rests on you. And He's the one who establishes the work of your hands. Lord, help me remember that my value is found in you, not in what I accomplish. Teach me to trust that your favor gives meaning to my work and that even in rest, I am still loved and called by you.

00:03:59.396 --> 00:04:09.046
In Jesus' name, amen. Would you do me a favor today? And I can hear you say, well, that depends on what it is. Okay, fair enough.

00:04:09.257 --> 00:04:39.987
Trust me, it's not difficult and won't take much time. If you're receiving value from these daily devotions, would you go to dailydevotionsforbusylives.com forward slash reviews, forward slash new, and leave an honest review? I leave the link in the show notes. That one act of kindness will let others know that they, too, might receive value from listening. And it would mean the world to me.

00:04:36.086 --> 00:04:44.487
Thanks for joining me today on Daily Devotions for Busy Lives.

00:04:39.987 --> 00:04:49.206
Remember, your worth is not what you produce, it's whose you are.

00:04:44.487 --> 00:04:55.596
Come back next time for more encouragement to help you live grounded in God's truth. Until then, God bless and have a great day.
