The storm came out of nowhere. A diagnosis. A loss. A relationship that’s falling apart. Maybe it’s not one big storm, but the daily drip of pressure, anxiety, and fear that won’t let up. You’re doing your best just to stay upright—but inside, you’re barely holding on.

Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I’m Bart Leger. And if the waves feel high and the sky feels dark, I want you to know—you’re not alone, and you’re not forgotten.

Mark 4:39–40 tells us this:

“When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Silence! Be still!’ Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.

Then he asked them, ‘Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?’” (NLT)

Jesus wasn’t just showing off His power—He was proving His presence.

The disciples were in a real boat, in a real storm, on a real sea. And even though Jesus was right there with them, they still panicked. Sound familiar?

But notice this: Jesus didn’t rebuke the disciples before the storm. He didn’t lecture them while the storm was raging. He waited until after the wind died down to ask, “Why are you afraid?”

Because sometimes fear feels louder than faith. But faith isn’t about pretending the storm isn’t real—it’s trusting that Jesus is more real than the storm.

You might not be in a literal boat, but maybe your world is rocking. The wind is howling. The waves are rising. You don’t see the shore, and you don’t have a map. But you do have Jesus.

He sees. He hears. And He speaks peace—not because the storm deserves it, but because you do. Because you’re His.

Maybe today you realize you’ve been trying to survive life’s storms without Jesus in your boat at all.

Here’s the good news: Jesus came to rescue us—not just from temporary storms, but from eternal separation from God. He lived a perfect life, died on the cross for your sins and mine, and rose again to offer you peace with God forever.

If you’ve never trusted Him, you can do that right now. Just talk to Him—right where you are. Say, “Jesus, I need You. I believe You died for me. I trust You with my life, my sin, and my storms. I want to follow You from this day forward.”

He hears that prayer. He answers that prayer. And if that’s you today, welcome to the family.

So today—don’t fight the storm alone. Invite Jesus in. His presence doesn’t mean you won’t feel afraid. But it does mean you’ll never be alone.

If you’ve prayed that prayer to trust Christ for the first time, please message me on the Facebook page @dailydevotionsforbusylives and let me know about your decision to follow Jesus. Let’s pray:

“Jesus, thank You for being with me in the middle of every storm. When I’m afraid, help me trust that You’re near. Speak peace to my heart today—and help me listen for Your voice above the waves. In Jesus' Name, Amen.”
