Maybe today feels like just another day. Same routine, same stress, same mess. You’re stuck in the cycle of laundry, meetings, traffic, bills. Nothing big is happening—and nothing feels worth celebrating. If that’s you, hang on. There’s joy in places you might be missing.

Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I’m Bart Leger, and for the next few minutes, we’re going to zoom in and find joy in the details of a very normal day.

Listen to Philippians 4:11–13:

“Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.

I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation,

whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.

For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (NLT)

Paul says he learned the secret of living with contentment. And that secret? It’s not stuff. It’s not status. It’s Jesus.

Let’s be honest—we live in a world obsessed with more. More achievement, more excitement, more “likes,” more everything. But Paul figured out how to find joy in enough.

Contentment isn’t about lowering your standards. It’s about lifting your focus.

When you live with Christ at the center, suddenly small things become big gifts. The laugh of your child. The smell of coffee in the morning. A quick breath of fresh air. A conversation that goes deeper than “how’s it going?”

Joy isn’t always found in mountaintop moments. Sometimes it’s tucked into the slow steps between here and there.

Paul’s joy wasn’t anchored to circumstances—it was rooted in Christ. And that same Christ is with you today, even if nothing feels exciting or new.

So pause. Look around. Joy may already be sitting right in front of you.

Here’s your challenge: Name three small things today that bring you joy. Say them out loud. Write them down. Then thank God for each one.

“Jesus, thank You for being more than enough. Teach me to find joy not just in the big moments, but in the small ones too. You are my strength and my source of contentment. In Jesus' Name, Amen.”
