You’re doing everything you can to hold it all together. Managing the details. Fixing what’s broken. Making sure everyone’s okay. And yet, the more you try to control, the more anxious and exhausted you feel.

Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I’m Bart Leger, and if you’ve been trying to be everything for everyone, today’s word is for you. There’s freedom in letting go.

Isaiah 55:8–9 reminds us:

“‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord.

‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.

For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,

so my ways are higher than your ways

and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.’” (NLT)

Letting go doesn’t mean giving up—it means trusting God’s better way.

Control is a funny thing. We cling to it because it gives us the illusion of safety. But in reality, it just magnifies our stress.

We think, If I don’t stay on top of this, everything might fall apart.

But what if the opposite is true? What if holding too tightly is what’s keeping us from experiencing peace?

Isaiah 55 is God’s reminder that He sees the whole picture. His thoughts aren’t like ours. His plans are higher—bigger—better.

Letting go of control doesn’t mean you stop caring. It means you stop carrying what was never yours to bear in the first place.

So maybe today, it’s time to release your grip. The relationship you can’t fix. The outcome you can’t predict. The situation that’s out of your hands.

God’s not asking you to understand everything—He’s asking you to trust Him with what you can’t see.

Here’s one question for you today: What are you gripping too tightly? Now—picture placing it in God’s hands. Out loud if you need to say it. “Lord, I release this to You.”

God, I’ve been holding too tightly. And I’m tired. Help me trust that Your ways are better than mine. I surrender this situation to You. Thank You for being in control, so I don’t have to be. In Jesus' Name, Amen.”
