Maybe yesterday was a mess. You lost your temper. You sinned. You didn’t pray, didn’t show up, didn’t get it right. And now you’re starting the day with guilt instead of grace. If that’s you, this episode is for you.

This is Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I’m Bart Leger, and if you’re waking up under the weight of yesterday, God has a fresh word for you today—and it starts with mercy.

Lamentations 3:22–23 says this:

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease.

Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” (NLT)

That means when the sun comes up, grace shows up.

We all carry regrets. Words we wish we hadn’t said. Things we should’ve done differently. Moments we want to rewind. But God doesn’t ask you to carry yesterday’s shame into today.

Instead, He says, “My mercy is new—right now.”

Lamentations was written in a season of sorrow. God’s people were grieving, hurting, questioning everything. And yet—right in the middle of that pain—Jeremiah writes about God’s faithfulness.

Why? Because even when we’re inconsistent, He is not.

You don’t have to earn your way back into God’s good graces this morning. They’re already there. Waiting. Fresh. Undiminished.

So take a breath. You’re not starting over alone. You’re starting new—carried by mercy.

Here’s your reset today: Say out loud, “God’s mercy is new for me today. I won’t let yesterday define me.”

Now, let His mercy remind you—you’re still loved.

God, thank You for new mercies. Thank You for not giving up on me. I receive Your grace this morning, and I walk forward in Your love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
