Maybe your brain won’t shut off at night. Maybe your stomach’s been in knots for days. You’re doing all the right things—but internally, you’re unraveling. Anxious thoughts, spiraling fears, and the sense that everything could fall apart if you don’t hold it all together.
This is Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I’m Bart Leger, and if you’ve been craving a sense of calm that isn’t tied to your circumstances—today’s word is for you.
Let’s listen to Philippians 4:6–7:
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” (NLT)
God doesn’t just give peace—His peace guards you.
You don’t need me to tell you what anxiety feels like. You already know. It steals your sleep. It hijacks your thoughts. It creates worst-case scenarios and plays them on a loop in your head.
But God’s peace? It’s not a mood or a vibe. It’s a force. A guard.
Paul doesn’t say that all your problems will disappear if you pray. He says peace will come—and that peace will stand guard over your heart and mind.
That Greek word for “guard” is a military term. Like posting a soldier at the gate of your soul. When anxiety tries to storm in, peace says, “You’re not welcome here.”
And notice the order: you pray first. You tell God what’s on your heart. You thank Him for what He’s already done. And then—peace arrives.
Not because you figured everything out. Not because the situation changed. But because God is near, and His peace is stronger than the storm.
So today—don’t just try to push away worry. Replace it. Talk to God. Thank Him. And trust that His peace is already moving in to stand guard.
Let’s pray:
“Lord, I’m tired of letting anxiety run the show. I give You my worries, my stress, my need to control. Guard my heart and mind with Your peace today. Amen.”
