When You're Rushing Again

When You're Rushing Again

Feeling like life’s a constant sprint? Today’s episode reminds us to slow down and walk at God’s pace, where peace—not pressure—leads the way.

Are you living at a pace that your soul can’t sustain?

You might be checking boxes and hitting deadlines—but still missing peace. We often equate rushing with success, but the truth is, our hearts weren’t made to run nonstop.

Pushing harder won’t always get you further. In fact, it can keep you from noticing the very presence of God in your day. Today’s episode invites you to breathe, slow down, and let the Shepherd lead you beside peaceful streams.

BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING, YOU’LL DISCOVER:

  • Why rest is not a luxury—it’s a spiritual necessity
  • What Psalm 23 reveals about God’s pace versus ours
  • A simple shift you can make to start walking with God, not ahead of Him

Slow your scroll, grab your coffee, and give your soul a breath of stillness.

Scripture Mentioned in This Episode:

Psalm 23:2 (NLT) – “He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams.”

In 2009, Norway's public broadcaster, NRK, bolted a camera to the window of a train, making the seven-hour journey from Bergen to Oslo. Then, they did something unheard of. They aired the entire ride, start to finish. No commercials. No voiceover. No music. Just the sound of the train clacking along the track and the steady rhythm of scenery rolling past, like forests, tunnels, snowy hills. That sounds like a guaranteed on to the next channel, right? Well, who in the world would watch hour after hour if nothing but mountains and rails? Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I am Bart Leger, a pastor for over 40 years, and your guide for the next few minutes of wisdom from God's Word. If it seems you're too busy to even stop and breathe, and your mind's constantly racing, this moment's for you. Let's slow down with a verse you may have heard of before, but let's really hear it today. It's from the 23rd Psalm, verse number 2.

00:01:16.828 --> 00:01:24.537
I have to admit, I don't struggle with being busy. I struggle with staying still.

00:01:20.298 --> 00:01:50.218
Even when I'm not writing, teaching, or answering emails, my brain is going through a checklist of what I have to do next. That's why this verse hits me right between the eyes. It doesn't say, he makes me rest, or he forces me to slow down. He says, he lets me rest. It's permission. A loving invitation.

00:01:44.457 --> 00:01:54.957
The truth is, sometimes our rushing isn't about productivity.

00:01:50.218 --> 00:02:03.778
It's about pressure. The pressure to get things done. We don't want to fall behind. We don't want to disappoint anyone.

00:01:58.938 --> 00:02:12.337
And sometimes, we think that if we just keep moving, we won't have to face what's under the surface. But here's the thing.

00:02:07.817 --> 00:02:47.292
You weren't made to race through life. Your soul needs a speed limit. And Psalm 23 reminds us that God isn't behind us shouting, "Hurry up!" He's beside us, whispering, "Come rest." So, if you're feeling stretched, too thin, or just plain tired, maybe it's time to walk, not run. Because when we move at His pace, we begin to notice things again. We can experience peace, we can take time for important things, like the people in our lives.

00:02:48.391 --> 00:03:23.971
Stillness makes room for God's presence. Remember that Norwegian train ride? Turns out, about a quarter of the entire country tuned in. They called it"A Very Long, Very Slow, Deep Breath." Now that one broadcast launched a worldwide, slow TV movement. Twelve hours of firewood crackling in the fireplace, salmon fishing, even days-long cruises. Millions of people started carving out time to do nothing.

00:03:26.320 --> 00:03:53.231
Because when you let yourself slow down, even for a moment, your soul seems to exhale. And in that quiet space, just like in the psalm, God meets you beside peaceful streams. Father, I have to confess...I rush too much. I fill my time and my mind until there's no room for you.

00:03:47.671 --> 00:04:45.791
Help me to slow down. Help me rest where you lead me. And let my heart move at the pace of your grace today. In Jesus' name, Amen. Is there something going on in your life right now that needs prayer? I'd love to partner with you in that.
