You don’t need to see the whole plan. God’s Word gives enough light for your next step. In this episode, discover how faith grows when you trust Him one step at a time.

Do you ever feel stuck because you don’t know the whole plan?

We want a map, but God gives us a lamp. Scripture reminds us that His Word lights our path just enough for the step in front of us. The question is: will we trust Him with today, even if tomorrow feels unclear?

In today’s devotion, you’ll hear the story of Brother Andrew, “God’s Smuggler,” who carried Bibles across guarded borders with nothing but a whispered prayer and a step of faith. His life shows us that faith isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about trusting God with the step right in front of you.

Main Scripture:

Psalm 119:105 – “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”

By the end of this episode, you’ll discover:

  • Why God gives us a lamp, not a spotlight, for the future
  • How daily faithfulness leads to lifelong impact
  • A simple prayer to help you trust God with your next step

Today’s Challenge:

Name one area where you feel stuck or overwhelmed. Then pray: “Lord, light the next step.” Open your Bible, ask God to show you one verse, and walk faithfully in that today.

A young Dutchman rolls up to a border checkpoint with his little car packed tight. He could see guards with rifles. A guard was checking the car in front of him with a mirror under the chassis. They were demanding papers. He feels his heart pounding. Because tucked in plain sight are Bibles he plans to deliver to believers who can't get them. He whispers a simple prayer he's prayed before.

00:00:22.330 --> 00:00:35.850
Lord, you made blind eyes see, now make seeing eyes blind. The guard waves him forward and starts looking in the car, then reaches for the stack on the seat.

Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I'm Bart Leger, and for over 40 years as a pastor, I've learned the simple truth.

00:00:47.712 --> 00:00:58.911
God rarely shows us the whole plan, but he always gives us the light we need for the next step.

00:00:51.991 --> 00:01:07.871
Psalm 119.105 says, Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. So what happened to that young Dutchman?

00:01:03.871 --> 00:01:18.072
The guard glances down and looks right past the Bibles. Stamp, wave through. That was Brother Andrew's story again and again.

00:01:13.072 --> 00:01:23.231
One small step and one small prayer. One border at a time.

00:01:18.072 --> 00:01:54.914
And I remember reading his story, God's smuggler, back in high school. It stirred something in me. Brother Andrew didn't have the whole road mapped out. He didn't have guarantees. But he had the word of God lighting just enough for the next footfall. And when he trusted that, God used him to start open doors, a ministry serving persecuted Christians around the world. And that's really the heart of Psalm 119.105. Notice it says God's word is a lamp to our feet. Not a floodlight. Not a GPS showing the entire route.

00:01:55.323 --> 00:03:19.647
Just a lamp. Enough light for the next step. Enough assurance for the moment we're in. That means if we're waiting until we have the full picture before moving forward, we'll be waiting forever. God teaches us to trust him in the step-by-step. Here's what that looks like in everyday life. Maybe you're praying about your career, but God hasn't shown you the 10-year plan. What he's given you is an opportunity to be faithful in the job you're in right now. Maybe you're worried about your kid's future, but God keeps reminding you to pray with them tonight and show up in the moment. Maybe you feel overwhelmed by a mountain of responsibilities, but God gives you the strength to take today's assignment and trust tomorrow to him. We live in a culture that worships strategy and control and long-range planning. But following Jesus is different. He invites us into a daily walk, step-by-step, trusting him with the unknowns. And the miracle is, when you look back, you realize those little steps created a journey you never could have planned on your own. Today, take one place where you feel stuck or overwhelmed because you don't see the whole Then, how about praying this simple prayer? Lord, light the next step. And open your Bible and ask him to show you one verse to guide that step.

00:03:14.828 --> 00:03:51.818
Then, take it. Trust him with what comes after. Lord, thank you that your word is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path. Forgive us for the times we want to see the whole road before we move. Help us to trust you enough to take the next faithful step, knowing you'll guide us as we go. In Jesus' name, amen. Would you consider helping me keep these devotions coming every day?
