In today’s devotion, you’ll hear the inspiring story of Rich Mullins, the songwriter behind “Awesome God,” who chose to live on an average laborer’s income and give the rest away. His quiet generosity and simple lifestyle showed the world what it means to walk humbly with God.

When you're secure in God's love, you don't have to prove your worth. You can use your worth to serve others. And that's what Rich Mullins understood. When he chose to live on a modest income and give the rest away, it wasn't a stunt. He was simply choosing to honor God and bless others. He wanted to follow Jesus' example of generosity and to live lightly in this world so others could be lifted. When we walk humbly, we begin to love mercy more than recognition and people more than our own pride.
