Real humility isn’t putting yourself down; it’s lifting others up. In this episode, discover how walking humbly with God brings freedom, joy, and grace to every relationship in your life.

Have you ever wondered what humility really looks like?

Some people think humility means downplaying your gifts or pretending you’re not good at something, but that’s not humility at all. True humility is knowing whose you are, being secure in God’s love, and using your life to serve others rather than yourself.

In today’s devotion, you’ll hear the inspiring story of Rich Mullins, the songwriter behind “Awesome God,” who chose to live on an average laborer’s income and give the rest away. His quiet generosity and simple lifestyle showed the world what it means to walk humbly with God.

Main Scripture:

Micah 6:8 – “No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

Supporting Scripture:

Philippians 2:3 – “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.”

By the end of this episode, you’ll discover:

  • Why humility is strength, not weakness
  • How to serve others without needing to be noticed
  • What it looks like to walk humbly with God every day

Today’s Challenge:

Find one simple, quiet way to serve someone this week, without telling anyone about it. Maybe it’s an act of kindness, a note of encouragement, or helping where no one expects it.

Then pray, “Lord, help me to walk humbly with You and reflect Your grace today.”

"I remember going to one of his concerts back in the early '90s. He came on stage in a white t-shirt, tattered blue jeans, and barefoot. He wrote songs you've probably sung before, like 'Awesome God'. But when the royalty checks started coming in, and they were a lot, Rich Mullins did something most musicians would never consider.

He asked that the profits from his tours and albums be handled by trusted church leaders, and that they pay him only though he wanted to be the It was only about the average wage of an American laborer giving the rest away. And his songs were chart toppers. But he only wanted a simple Why in the world would anyone ever choose that?

Humility. Some people think humility means pretending you're less valuable or denying your gifts. But that's not humility. That's insecurity. Real humility is when we live out of grace.

00:01:07.581 --> 00:01:20.281
Instead of pointing to ourselves, we point others to the God who gifted us. It's living in such a way that your life points upwards to God and outward to

00:01:35.620 --> 00:02:22.608
When you're secure in God's love, you don't have to prove your worth. You can use your worth to serve others. And that's what Rich Mullins understood. When he chose to live on a modest income and give the rest away, it wasn't a stunt. He was simply choosing to honor God and bless others. He wanted to follow Jesus' example of generosity and to live lightly in this world so others could be lifted. When we walk humbly, we begin to love mercy more than recognition and people more than our own pride.

00:02:52.848 --> 00:03:15.268
He didn't think less of himself.

00:03:15.268 --> 00:03:33.147
Maybe it's writing a thank you note, cleaning up without being asked, or listening longer when someone's talking. And pray, Lord, help me walk humbly with you today, and let my life reflect your grace, not my ego.

00:03:46.763 --> 00:03:58.872
Keep us from pride and help us to see opportunities to lift others up. In Jesus' name, Amen.

00:04:04.663 --> 00:04:12.182
It's thinking more of others.

00:04:12.802 --> 00:04:24.663
Come back next time for more encouragement to help you live grounded in God's truth. Until then, God bless, and have a great day. Thank you.
