You’re Closer Than You Think

You’re Closer Than You Think

When you're exhausted, discouraged, and nothing seems to be working, the temptation to quit can feel overwhelming. But what if you're closer to your breakthrough than you realize? In this episode, discover why patient endurance is the key to receiving everything God has promised.

When you're exhausted, discouraged, and nothing seems to be working, the temptation to quit can feel overwhelming. But what if you're closer to your breakthrough than you realize? In this episode, discover why patient endurance is the key to receiving everything God has promised.

Ever hit a moment when you just want to walk away?

Maybe you've been praying for something, and you're tired of waiting…

A relationship feels stuck…

A goal seems impossible…

And suddenly your heart starts saying, "This isn't working. Maybe I should just quit."

But what if the breakthrough you've been praying for is just on the other side of this hard season?

In this episode, Bart shares the powerful story of Tara Westover, a young woman who walked onto a college campus for the first time at 17, having never attended a single day of school in her life. That first semester nearly broke her. She felt lost, humiliated, and completely out of place. She was this close to quitting and going back to the only life she knew.

But she didn't. And that decision changed everything.

Through this story and the truth of Hebrews 10:36 and Galatians 6:9, you'll see that sometimes the very moment we want to quit is the exact moment God is about to move. You'll learn what patient endurance really means—not passive waiting, but active, faithful persistence even when you can't see the results yet.

Main Scriptures:

Hebrews 10:36 (NLT) – "Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God's will. Then you will receive all that he has promised."

Galatians 6:9 (NLT) – "So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up."

By the end of this episode, you'll discover:

  • Why the breakthrough often comes right after the moment you're most tempted to quit
  • The difference between passive waiting and patient endurance
  • How to trust God's timing even when you can't see progress
  • What it means to keep going in God's strength, not your own

Today's Challenge:

Think of one area where you've been tempted to quit. Maybe you've been praying for something, and you're tired of waiting. Maybe you've been working toward a goal, and you're not seeing progress. Instead of giving up, commit to one more week, one more month, one more season of faithful endurance. Ask God to renew your strength and help you trust His timing. And then watch what He does.

Speak:

"A 17-year-old girl walks onto a college campus for the

Speak:

very first time. But here's the thing: she's never been to

Speak:

school. Not even once

Speak:

no kindergarten, no middle school, no high school, nothing.

Speak:

Tara Westover grew up in the mountains of rural Idaho in a

Speak:

survivalist family that didn't believe in formal education. She

Speak:

taught herself enough to take the ACT and somehow got accepted

Speak:

to Brigham Young University. It was a miracle just to get there.

Speak:

But that first semester, she sat in classrooms completely lost.

Speak:

Her classmates talked about things she'd never heard of.

Speak:

Every single day, she felt humiliated and out of place,

Speak:

like she didn't belong. She was this close to packing her bags

Speak:

and going back to the mountains where life made sense. She

Speak:

thought, "This was a mistake. I'm not smart enough. I should

Speak:

just quit."

Speak:

Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I'm Bart Leger and

Speak:

today we're talking about those moments when everything in you

Speak:

wants to give up, walk away, or just quit right before something

Speak:

amazing is just about to happen, that moment when you're

Speak:

exhausted and when nothing seems to be working. But sometimes

Speak:

you're closer to your breakthrough than you think.

Hebrews 10 00:01:27

36 says, "Patient endurance is what you need now,

Hebrews 10 00:01:32

so that you will continue to do God's will. Then you will

Hebrews 10 00:01:36

receive all that he has promised." And in Galatians 6: 9,

Hebrews 10 00:01:40

the apostle Paul writes, "So let's not get tired of doing

Hebrews 10 00:01:43

what is good. At just the right time, we will reap a harvest of

Hebrews 10 00:01:48

blessing if we don't give up." Alleluia says, "Good. Both

Hebrews 10 00:01:52

passages show us something powerful. The blessing often

Hebrews 10 00:01:55

comes right after the moment we're most tempted to quit. Have

Hebrews 10 00:01:58

you ever noticed how close the finish line can be when you feel

Hebrews 10 00:02:01

the most exhausted? Maybe you're in a season right now where

Hebrews 10 00:02:05

you've been pouring into something. You've been praying

Hebrews 10 00:02:08

for a ministry, a career, your education, or maybe your health,

Hebrews 10 00:02:14

and you're just not seeing results. You've prayed, and

Hebrews 10 00:02:18

you've worked, and you've trusted, and you're tired. For

Hebrews 10 00:02:22

some of you, the thought has crossed your mind more than once.

Hebrews 10 00:02:25

Maybe I'm not cut out for this. Maybe this wasn't God's plan

Hebrews 10 00:02:29

after all. Maybe I should just quit. You know, that's exactly

Hebrews 10 00:02:35

where the enemy wants you. Because he knows something you

Hebrews 10 00:02:39

might not see yet. You're closer than you might think. Think

Hebrews 10 00:02:43

about it. The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for

Hebrews 10 00:02:46

40 years. And some of them never made it to the Promised Land.

Hebrews 10 00:02:50

Not because it didn't exist, but because they give up too soon.

Hebrews 10 00:02:54

They complained, they doubted, and they wanted to go back to

Hebrews 10 00:02:57

Egypt. And they died within sight of the very thing God had

Hebrews 10 00:03:01

promised them. What if the breakthrough you've been praying

Hebrews 10 00:03:05

for is just on the other side of this hard season? What if the

Hebrews 10 00:03:10

answer is one more prayer away? Maybe one more day of

Hebrews 10 00:03:14

faithfulness and one more step of obedience? Patient endurance.

Hebrews 10 00:03:18

That's what Hebrews 10: 36 calls it. Not passive waiting, but

Hebrews 10 00:03:23

active, faithful persistence, even when you can't see the

Hebrews 10 00:03:27

results yet. It's continuing to do God's will even when it's

Hebrews 10 00:03:31

hard, even when you're tired, and even when it feels like

Hebrews 10 00:03:36

nothing is happening. Because here's the truth: God's timing

Hebrews 10 00:03:41

is not our timing. But I want to tell you this: His timing is

Hebrews 10 00:03:46

always perfect. And sometimes the very moment we want to quit

Hebrews 10 00:03:50

is the exact moment God is about to move. This is where Tara's

Hebrews 10 00:03:56

story turns. She didn't quit. But she pushed through one more

Hebrews 10 00:04:00

week. Just one more assignment. One more day of feeling

Hebrews 10 00:04:06

completely overwhelmed. And then slowly things started to click.

Hebrews 10 00:04:11

Eventually, she graduated from BYU. Then earned a Ph. D. from

Hebrews 10 00:04:17

Cambridge. Then became a visiting fellow at Harvard. The

Hebrews 10 00:04:22

girl who almost quit after one semester became Dr. Tara

Hebrews 10 00:04:26

Westover, best-selling author of Educated, inspiring millions

Hebrews 10 00:04:31

worldwide. All because she didn't give up right before the

Hebrews 10 00:04:36

breakthrough. What if she had packed her bags the first

Hebrews 10 00:04:39

semester? What if she had listened to the voice that said,

Hebrews 10 00:04:41

"You're not smart enough. You don't belong here." She would

Hebrews 10 00:04:45

have missed everything God had planned for her. She was closer

Hebrews 10 00:04:49

than she thought. And maybe you are, too. Maybe the business

Hebrews 10 00:04:53

you're building is about to turn the corner. Maybe the

Hebrews 10 00:04:56

relationship you're fighting for is about to heal. Or possibly

Hebrews 10 00:04:59

the ministry you're pouring into is about to bear fruit. Maybe

Hebrews 10 00:05:04

the breakthrough in your health, your finances, or your family is

Hebrews 10 00:05:09

around the corner, but you won't see it if you quit now. Patient

Hebrews 10 00:05:13

endurance. Keep doing what God has called you to do. Just keep

Hebrews 10 00:05:17

showing up. Keep praying and keep believing. Because at just

Hebrews 10 00:05:20

the right time, you will reap a harvest of blessing if you don't

Hebrews 10 00:05:23

give up. Here's today's challenge. Think of one area

Hebrews 10 00:05:27

where you've been tempted to quit. Maybe you've been praying

Hebrews 10 00:05:30

for something and you're tired of waiting. Maybe you've been

Hebrews 10 00:05:34

working toward a goal and you're not seeing progress. Instead of

Hebrews 10 00:05:38

giving up, commit to one more week. Maybe one more month or

Hebrews 10 00:05:43

one more season of faithful endurance. Ask God to renew your

Hebrews 10 00:05:47

strength and help you trust His timing and then watch what He

Hebrews 10 00:05:52

does. Lord, some of us are so close to quitting. We're tired

Hebrews 10 00:05:57

and discouraged and we don't see the breakthrough yet, but you

Hebrews 10 00:06:00

see what we can't. Father, you know the plans you have for us.

Hebrews 10 00:06:04

Give us patient endurance. Please renew our strength and

Hebrews 10 00:06:08

help us trust your timing, even when it's hard. Remind us that

Hebrews 10 00:06:12

we're closer than we think. We choose to keep going, not in our

Hebrews 10 00:06:15

own strength, but in yours. In Jesus' name, amen. If this

Hebrews 10 00:06:21

episode encouraged you, chances are it'll encourage someone you

Hebrews 10 00:06:24

care about, too. So please share it with a friend or a loved one.

endurance is what you need now. Come back next time for more
