Waiting is hard, but God is at work even when you can’t see it. In this episode, discover how faith grows when you trust Him through seasons of silence.

Do you ever feel like your prayers or efforts aren’t making a difference?

We want results right away, but God often works slowly, behind the scenes. Scripture reminds us that waiting isn’t wasted, it’s an act of courage and faith.

In today’s devotion, you’ll hear the story of William Carey, a missionary who labored for years without visible results before finally seeing the first breakthrough. His perseverance shows us that God is always moving, even if His timing feels delayed.

Main Scripture:

Psalm 27:14 – “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”

By the end of this episode, you’ll discover:

  • Why waiting on the Lord is an act of courage, not passivity
  • How God often works underground before we see fruit
  • A practical prayer to help you stay faithful in waiting seasons

Today’s Challenge:

Identify one area where you’re waiting on God. Each day this week, pray Psalm 27:14 out loud: “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” Trust Him to work while you keep showing up.

gets on a wooden boat bound for India with a fire in his bones and a pocket full of promises. Then, the calendar starts turning. One year, two, five years. William Carey learns the language, prints gospel tracts, preaches, prays, and still nothing. No baptisms, no public decisions, just silence

00:00:26.035 --> 00:00:41.634
Slow seeds and hard soil. He keeps showing up anyway. Then, one day, a local carpenter named Krishna Pal shows up with a broken arm and a lot of questions. Could this finally be the moment?

00:00:44.875 --> 00:00:57.104
Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I'm Bart Leger, and today we're talking about those seasons when you feel like you prayed and worked and trusted God, but you're still waiting.

00:00:57.104 --> 00:01:17.525
And I know, waiting is hard. We want instant results, but God often works slowly beneath the surface, while He's preparing our hearts and writing stories we can't even see yet. Psalm 27: 14 says, "Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous." Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

00:01:19.655 --> 00:01:25.685
For William Carey, the answer came after seven long years.

00:01:25.685 --> 00:02:15.104
Through many conversations and the steady witness of Scripture, Krishna Pal put his trust in Jesus Christ and in late 1800, he publicly entered the waters of baptism, the first fruits after years of sowing. Carrie's labor wasn't wasted. God had been working under the surface all along. Waiting stretches us because it tests our faith. And when the results aren't immediate, we start to wonder, Is God listening? Did I miss his direction? Or, am I wasting my time? But Psalm 27 reminds us that waiting isn't passive. It's actually an act of courage. To wait on the Lord is to believe He is still moving, even if you can't measure the progress yet.

00:02:11.463 --> 00:02:15.104
Think about a seed in the ground.

00:02:15.114 --> 00:02:26.811
For weeks, nothing seems to happen. But underground, roots are forming. The moment of breakthrough is only possible because of the hidden work first.

00:02:22.895 --> 00:02:51.698
That's how God often works in our lives. Your prayers may feel unanswered, but He's aligning circumstances. Your efforts may seem small, but He's shaping someone's heart. The breakthrough you long for may not be sudden. It may be the result of years of unseen faithfulness. And here's the truth. When God grows slowly, He often grows strong. Waiting seasons are not wasted seasons.

00:02:51.707 --> 00:03:09.576
They train us to trust His timing and to rely on His strength. Where in your life are you waiting on breakthrough? At work? In your family? Or is it in your walk with God? Well, name it. Then, each day this week, pray Psalm 2714 out loud.

00:03:10.106 --> 00:03:38.227
Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. And then, let those words anchor you while you keep showing up. Heavenly Father, waiting is hard. We confess we'd rather see instant results. But thank you for reminding us that you're always working, even when we can't see it. Give us courage in the waiting and faith to keep showing up and the eyes to trust that your timing is perfect.

00:03:38.546 --> 00:03:59.546
Help us to rest in your faithfulness today. In Jesus' name, Amen. Thanks for joining me today on Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. Remember, God is at work, even in the waiting. Come back next time for more encouragement to help you live grounded in God's truth. Until then, God bless and have a great day.
