Do you ever lie awake at night, feeling like no one sees or understands what you’re going through?

The silence can feel overwhelming, but Scripture reminds us that God never slumbers or sleeps. He is always awake, always watching, always present.

In today’s devotion, you’ll hear the story of a snowmobiler stranded in the Alaskan wilderness who was rescued in the middle of the night. His rescue is a picture of God’s promise: even when the world is asleep, the Lord is already moving on your behalf.

Main Scripture:

Psalm 121:3–4 – “He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The Lord Himself watches over you!”

By the end of this episode, you’ll discover:

  • Why God’s constant watch is a source of peace
  • How to find rest even when worries keep you up at night
  • A simple way to hand your burdens to God before bed

Today’s Challenge:

Before you go to sleep tonight, write down one worry and pray: “Lord, I trust You to stay awake so I can rest.” Hand it over to Him and let Him carry it through the night.

It's 2 a. m. in the Alaskan winter. A snowmobile stalls in the dark between Norfolk and Kotzebue. No cell service, no houses in sight, just cold and silence. The rider pulls out an iPhone, points it toward the sky, and uses the emergency SOS via satellite feature to send a message with its exact coordinates. Alaska state troopers get the ping and volunteers start moving. In the middle of the night, help is on the way. Will they reach him in time?

00:00:36.051 --> 00:00:52.231
Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I am Bart Leger, and I've been a pastor for over 40 years. And in these next few minutes, I want to encourage you with the truth that even in your darkest nights, God is still wide awake and watching over you.

00:00:52.881 --> 00:01:24.191
Today's scripture is from Psalm 121, verses 3 and 4. It goes like this. He who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The Lord Himself watches over you. So what happened to that stranded snowmobiler? Rescuers followed those GPS coordinates and found him uninjured and ultimately brought him to safety. When everyone else was asleep, a rescue was already unfolding.

00:01:24.891 --> 00:01:31.781
Now that's Psalm 121 in real time. God doesn't nod off, and He doesn't get distracted. He doesn't miss your call for help.

00:01:31.790 --> 00:01:40.581
While you're still awake in bed at 2 a. m. going over worries in your mind, He's already at work.

00:01:35.861 --> 00:02:08.713
When you feel unseen, He knows your exact coordinates, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The good news is, He knows how to reach you. And you don't need an iPhone to do it. Sometimes it feels like no one knows what you're going through. Maybe you're carrying burdens at work or worries for your kids. Or maybe it's a fear about your future. But God knows what's going on. His word says He never slumbers or sleeps.

00:02:03.394 --> 00:02:13.079
That means you can. You can rest because He's not resting. This isn't just a nice platitude.

00:02:13.098 --> 00:02:25.739
It's a promise. Your life isn't left to chance. Your steps aren't unguarded. Your Father in Heaven is alert. He's attentive and actively watching over you.

00:02:22.788 --> 00:02:25.739
Here's today's challenge.

00:02:26.519 --> 00:02:29.498
Tonight, when you lie down to sleep, pray this simple prayer.

00:02:29.519 --> 00:02:42.248
Lord, I trust you to stay awake so I can rest. And write down one worry you've been carrying and place it before God. And let Him carry it through the night.

00:02:37.829 --> 00:02:49.868
Father, thank you that you never slumber or sleep. Thank you that when I feel alone or overwhelmed, you're already watching over me.

00:02:46.528 --> 00:03:11.938
Help me rest in your care, knowing that you never take your eyes off me. In Jesus' name, amen. Thanks for joining me today on Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. Remember, God never sleeps, and He never stops watching over you. Come back next time for more encouragement to help you live grounded in God's truth. Until then, God bless, and have a great day.
